While the body’s response to acute stress is highly beneficial for survival, traumatic, persistent or repeated stress can negatively impact health and healing, resulting in disabling symptoms such as chronic fatigue, pain, weight gain and depression.
Center investigators are studying the structural and functional brain changes associated with chronic stress and stress-related symptoms, and evaluating how mind-based therapies can normalize these changes, and restore wellness.
