Study on Brain‐Gut Microbiome Interactions in Healthy Women

Are you a female with chronic abdominal pain with diarrhea and/or constipation?

Dr. Lin Chang from UCLA G. Oppenheimer Center for Neurobiology of Stress and Resilience is looking for healthy pre‐menopausal and post‐menopausal women between the ages of 18‐70 for a research study looking at the role of hormones in chronic abdominal pain. ParƟcipants will be asked to undergo an MRI and provide saliva, blood and stool samples.

Qualifications:

  • Have no significant medical or psychological history
  • Not on any hormone birth control
  • No current use of narcotics and/or opioids
  • No metal implants
  • For pre‐menopausal women, you must not be pregnant or breast‐feeding
  • Have no immediate family with a history of chronic pain syndromes

Compensation up to $340 and get a digital image of your brain

  • Have no other significant medical or psychological history

Women’s Study on Brain‐Gut Microbiome Interactions in Chronic Functional Constipation

Are you a female suffering from chronic constipation?

If so, Dr. Lin Chang from UCLA G. Oppenheimer Center for Neurobiology of Stress and Resilience is looking for pre‐menopausal and post‐menopausal women with chronic constipation between the ages of 18‐60 for a research study looking at the role of hormones in this condition.

Participants will be asked to undergo an MRI, a colon transit test with X‐Ray and provide saliva, blood and stool samples.

To be eligible, participants must:

  • Have chronic constipation for at least 3 months
  • Not on any hormone birth control
  • No current use of narcotics and/or opioids
  • No metal implants
  • For pre‐menopausal women, you must not be pregnant or breast‐feeding
  • Have no other significant medical or psychological history

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Gastrointestinal Pain

Conducted by Emeran Mayer, MD

Emeran Mayer, MD from UCLA G. Oppenheimer Center for Neurobiology of Stress and Resilience is conducting a study to test the effect of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on the brain and gut in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

To be eligible, participants must:

  • Have chronic abdominal pain with altered bowel habit for at least 6 months OR diagnosed with IBS
  • Be between the ages of 18-55
  • If female, not pregnant, post-partum or breast feeding
  • Have no significant medical or psychological history
  • Not currently practicing CBT or have completed CBT treatment in the last 2 years

Participation involves a screening, online questionnaires, a before and after CBT brain MRI visit with a blood and stool sample and 10 weeks of guided at-home CBT.

Men may earn up to $425 and women may earn up to $495 and everyone will get a digital image of their brain.

Study on Sex Differences in the Brain and Chronic Abdominal Pain for IBS

Help answer questions related to sex differences in the structure and function of our brains and chronic abdominal pain. Participate in Brain Imaging Research at the G. Oppenheimer Center for Neurobiology of Stress and Resilience.

You must:

  • Have chronic abdominal pain with altered bowel habit for at least 6 months or have been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • If female, not pregnant, breast feeding or on hormone-based birth control
  • Be between the ages of 18-55
  • If female, not pregnant, breast feeding or on hormone-based birth control
  • Have no other significant medical or psychological history

Participation involves a screening visit, online questionnaires, an MRI and one sample each of blood, stool and saliva.
